There is a lot of advantages and appeal to using bamboo has a fabre. Bamboo has been compared to silk because it feels so soft (CMA Bali). This softness can be contributed to how breathable the fabric is (The Bamboo Emporium). However, this fabric does wrinkle up more than the other fabrics in the market (CMA Bali).

One of it's amazing properties is that it is a natural moist-wicking material (The Bamboo Emporium; CMA Bali). It has one the best weight-to-strength ratio.

A major appeal to bamboo is how sustainable it really is (The Bamboo Emporium). Bamboo is biodegradable and it is the fastest growing tree in the world (CMA Bali; PSU Ecomerge Capstone). During their growth, bamboo absorbs a significant amount of CO2; higher than any other plant based options (PSU Ecomerge Capstone).


Combed Ring-Spun Cotton

The term "ring spun" means that the yarn goes through an innovative spinning process to soften and straighten each fiber by twisting and thinning (Liberty Maniacs; Spectra Tees). Thus, ring spun yarn are smoother, stronger, and longer than regular yarn. This also gives the yarn a heavier feel but it weighs the same or less (The Adair Group).

To make it smoother, the spun are combed through to remove "impurities." Fewer impurities will ensure it stays soft (Liberty Maniacs).

Cotton is made from soft vegetable fibers that are twisted together to make a yarn. (The Adair Group). Regular cotton is not has durable as other material, that is why performance shirts are not made from it. An other reason why cotton is used in performance shirt is that it retains water when wet; leaving the user to feel cold for a longer time.


Polyester

Polyester has a high tenacity and is very durable. Due to its durability, it is resistant to most chemicals, resists stretching and shrinking, wrinkle resistant, and abrasion resistant. It is hydrophobic; thus, resist mildew and it is quick drying. It is easy to take care of polyester clothing (American Fiber Manufacturers Association, Inc; Boekhoff, K, 1996; Eduaddiction; What is Polyester?).

Polyester are easy to mold and can take on almost any shape. By creating the polyester to have hollow fibers or crumple polyester in a fiberfill, it can trap dead air and be heated by the body. Making this a create insulating fiber (AFMA; Boekhoff, 1996).

Polyester is a long-chain of polymers that are chemically composed together (Eduaddiction; What Is Polyester?).

An issue with synthetic fiber (e.g. polyester) is microplastic pollution (Napper, I. & Thompson, R., 2016; O'Connor, M., 2014Williams, A., 2016).


Rayon (Viscose)

Advantages of rayon is that it is breathable, doesn't stick to skin, soft and comfortable, and drapes very well; however, it is highly absorbent (American Fiber Manufacturers Association, Inc; Eduaddiction). Thus, it doesn't work well while being active.

Rayon is best dry-clean or hand washed. It can resist moister if mixed with other fibers.

Rayon is, "...a manufactured regenerated cellulose fiber. It is made from purified cellulose, primarily from wood pulp, which is chemically converted into a soluble compound... Because rayon is manufactured from naturally occurring polymers, it is considered a semi-synthetic fiber" (OMICS International). Because it comes from wood pulp, it takes a long time to harvest.

Rayon has been found to be more biodegradable than cotton (Park, C.; Kang, Y. & Im, S., 2004). However, it has been found to be a big contributor to ocean pollution (Thompson, R., 2014).
